OctPoWriMo day 14 Moment of Silence

On these phones
its constant noise
Alarms sounding
People shouting.

Once in a while
everyone finishes their calls,
and silence descends for a time.

Usually we fill the void with conversation-
But once in a while
we will each choose
(Separately and yet in unison)
To embrace the silence,
the moment of peace.

Then the phones ring again
As crises descend
And shatter the silence.

This post is part of OctPoWriMo. Today's prompt was "silence" To see what other poets created, click here.

  1. Oh sweet silence when it comes to your job, right? I can imagine no one embraces silence more than you. Except maybe the mother of octuplets. ;)

    1. Ha! Yes exactly. In fact I know when I have been on vacation long ebough when I don't hear ringing phones in my sleep. On our new phone system, the emergency calls sound like a fire siren...really annoying i think I'd rather deal with the crying octuplets.

  2. I like your poem, Meg. These lines struck me:
    "we will each choose
    (Separately and yet in unison)"
    Thank you.

    1. Thank you for the kind words. Some times the best way to realize how much noise we are dealing with is to have a moment of silence.
