First college visit.
First applications.
First rejection.
First letter of acceptance.
First Scholarship.
First ID card.
First draft card sign up.
First textbook orders.
First roommate.
First Day of College.
First glimpses of adulthood.

Last baseball game.
Last homework.
Last Exam.
Last report card.
Last days of this summer.
Last night he's 17.
Last packing of the bags.
Last home cooked meal.
Last walk to the car.
Last hugs.
No last look back.

  1. I'm a mom of three grown children. One lives two provinces away. The other is planning to move across the ocean in the spring. The third desires her own place as soon as she can make a go of it. Your list of lasts really got to me. My favourite poetry is that which stirs my emotions. That you've done. Good stuff.

  2. Thank you so much. I guess you could say I've beenworking on this sinceI became a mom. I still have one at home, a high school freshman, so I shall be rewriting the list for years to come.
